  Hon. Diccia T. Pineda-Kirwan

Candidate Biography
Personal Statement
  • I was elected to the Civil Court of the City of New York, Queens County, in November 2002, and am the first female Dominican-born judge in the state of New York, as well as the first Latina elected to the bench and to public office in the history of Queens County. Before my election to the bench, I worked in the Queens court system for more than 13 years--first as a Court Attorney in the Civil Court, then as a Principal Law Clerk in the New York State Supreme Court. Throughout my career, I have been an active member of several professional and community organizations, and I co-founded the Latino Lawyers' Association of Queens County. I was born in Baitoa, Santiago, in the Dominican Republic, and moved to New York when I was nine years old. Since then, I have been a proud resident of Queens, attending Queens College as an undergraduate and also for my law degree. I am the proud mother of three children: Shannyn, Christopher, and Lauren. My 20 years working in the court system have given me the experience necessary to serve as New York State Supreme Court Justice. It will be an honor and look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve my community in that capacity.
